Damned (Apo?) + random stuff

Tue Oct 5, 2010, 11:12 PM
EDIT: it happened AGAIN!! I hope I understand what's wrong... :frustrated:
-I'm trying to make some renders during the night (for the next calendar), but it's the second time that my computer apparently reboots while running Apophysis for a few hours :x - at least that's what I think, because in the morning Apo is not open, but I don't get any error message :(
I'll try to make a smaller render while I can watch what happens... I still have to make 8 large renders - attempting to reduce the noise (but I'm afraid I'll have to fix it in Photoshop...)

-About half of my fractal gallery is currently in the correct subcategory, but I've still got to move all the stuff from 2008 :faint:

-I'm officially in the HP Art Project! [link] :iconexcitedplz: Well, the last time I used a pencil was... months ago, so it's time to practise again with some sketches :sprint:

It's possible that, if you have your computer hooked up continually to the Internet, that Windows is downloading updates during your render then rebooting. That happened to me often enough that I don't allow it to automatically download and update. I have it set so I can manually install updates when it's convenient for me.

Yes, that's what I thought, I've tried to change settings and even to disconnect during the night and luckily it worked! :D

If all else fails, I'd be happy to do some rendering to your specifications (I have a dedicated machine for it!), but quite understand any reluctance to part with precious parameters. Or you could always try my strip method [link] to minimise losses.

Thank you so much :-) but I don't think it'll be necessary (well I hope so) And thanks for the link, I had thought about a similar method, maybe I'll give it a try someday :D

:fingerscrossed: then! A further upshot of my strips method is that you should be able to apply >1 oversample to even print-sized renders, but I admit to not having tried this yet. I suppose there's just an off-chance of this inducing discrepancies at the joins...

I'm planning to try some renderings in strips, at least for the images with biggest quality issues. I don't think any discrepancy should be visible, because I'll resize them a lot smaller than the original (it's just for the calendar).
Anyway, last night the pc didn't give me any problem, :w00t: I should finish by the end of the month (I want to buy a couple of calendars as gifts, and it'll take weeks from USA to Italy :D)

dA should implement an international partnership/syndication deal with local print companies - ridiculous sending finished goods across the world :disbelief:

Perhaps you have some other software installed and running in the background that does automatic updates and reboots? Security software is notorious for that.

That's a possibility. It's strange, because I've successfully finished 4 long renders (8-9 hours) some nights ago and it was ok. I'm not an expert, but my dad is a computer "wizard" and I hope he can help me solve the problem. I'm sure the answer is in the event viewer (but I'm not good at reading it :lmao:)
Maybe I can try again disconnecting completely from the internet.
I hope it'n not Apo's fault!!

I sincerely doubt it's apo's fault.
The only thing apo is guilty of is stealing lots of hours of our time!
